The Information Security
Group
The Information Security Group (ISG)
at Royal Holloway is an interdisciplinary research group comprised of
computer scientists and mathematicians. The group offers an active research
environment with over ten established academic posts and a large number
of research students, making it one of the largest academic security
groups in the world. The group regularly hosts international visitors
and has strong research links with a number of industrial and government
institutions. A recent initiative has been the formation of the Smart
Card Centre by Giesecke and Devrient, Vodafone and Royal Holloway. In
1998 Royal Holloway, University of London, was awarded a Queen's
Anniversary Prize in recognition of the work of the ISG.
The ISG conducts research in areas such
as the design and evaluation of cryptographic algorithms and protocols
(where it contributes actively to the international standardisation
process), smart cards, electronic commerce, security management, mobile
telecommunications security, and the integration of security techniques
into specific applications. Information about current members of the
ISG and their research interests is available. There is also a list
of former members of staff as well as PhD and MSc graduates.

Recognition in 2003 New Year Honours
List:
Dr Richard Walton, Visiting Professor in the ISG, was made a Companion
of the Order of the Bath in the New Year's Honours List. Dr Walton was
formerly Director of the Communications-Electronics Security Group at
GCHQ.
