The Information Security
Group - Research
The ISG conducts research in the design
and evaluation of cryptographic algorithms and protocols (where it contributes
actively to the international standardisation process), smart cards,
electronic commerce, security management, mobile telecommunications
security, and the integration of security techniques into specific applications.
Currently, research students
are working on topics such as cryptography, key recovery, public key
infrastructures, electronic payment protocols, risk analysis, and smart
card security. The Univesity's contacts with leading companies often
allow students to have a privileged view of the latest developments
in information security. There are also a number of collaborative projects
sponsored by industry, among them
- Hewlett-Packard sponsors the Annual
Colloquium and research students,
- Landwell sponsors a Senior Visiting
Fellow,
- Vodafone sponsors a part-time Chair
in Telecommunications as well as research students,
- BT sponsors research students and
collaborative research projects.
- PriceWaterhouseCoopers sponsors a
research project.
There is also much research collaboration
with universities such as
- University of Adelaide,
- University of Wollongong,
- Katholieke Universiteit Leuven,
- University of Copenhagen,
- Ateneo de Manila University,
- Florida State University.
There are currently over ten members
of the academic staff, including visiting professors, senior visiting
fellows and consultants, as well as a large group of postdoctoral research
assistants and research students. The research interest and contact
details of the members of the ISG can be found in their respective home
pages.
The ISG plays a leading role in a number
of UK and international collaborative research projects, supported by
the UK government research establishments, the European Union and industry.
A list of current projects and some past projects is available.
Results of the research by individual
members of the ISG as well as in the collaborative projects are disseminated
in the form of publications in specialist journals as well as presentations
at conferences. A list of recent publications is maintained.
Seminars
The ISG runs a number of seminar series.
These offer opportunity for discussion of on-going research as well
as a view of the latest development in information security
